On the night of arrival, only a few of us showed up at this hotel, but the check in was extremely long as only one person was checking everyone in. We must have waited close to 45 minutes. Most hotels would call in for other people if they see a group of people arriving. This hotel was obviously not ready for us. But eventually checked us in. On the other hand, I must give credit to the receptionist for being very patient and polite.
One nice thing about Blau Colonial is that they don't charge extra for a safe. Many other hotels see the safe as an extra source of revenue.
As a result of misinformation by SellOffVacations, we were promised an upgrade to better rooms, but as it turned out, the upgraded rooms were dirty and the linens and towels in one of the two rooms were unchanged. How could they give us a key to such a room? Needless to say, we didn't take the upgraded rooms.
Speaking of dirty linens and towels, it was not uncommon to find “fresh” towels with stains on them. This is not to say that I haven't had similar problems in much better hotels in Canada and the United States.
Nightly Entertainment
Perhaps the one thing that Air Canada Vacations wasn’t wrong about is the nightly entertainment which I believe was rated at 2 stars by Air Canada Vacations website. I don’t think it deserved anything more than that, but at least they were honest in the rating. Most of the shows were quite short, and relatively poorly organized. Out of the week, there was about 2 night where the shows were quite good - those were the nights they brought in people from the outside to do the shows. I heard that while we were there they hired a new coordinator to look after the entertainment. Maybe there will be some improvements in this area as a result of the new hire. Either way, when I was there, we went to the shows because there wasn't much else to do, but sitting through the shows sometimes felt more like a visit to the dentist then to a show.
